The Institution of Engineering and Technology’s (IET) mission is to inspire, inform and influence the global engineering community.

The IET's goal is audacious.  Quite simply, to engineer a better world.

For 151 years, the IET has energetically pursued that mission.

Today with 169,000 members in more than 150 countries, it will continue doing so long into the future.

With the future in mind, in 2021, the IET undertook a massive refurbishment of Futures Place, its head office in Stevenage.

The new-look building will feature innovative and technologically smart workspaces with accessibility, sustainability and employee well-being as a key focus for the plans.

Richard Mundy, Head of Facilities at the IET, said: “The environment in which our colleagues work is really important to us as it underpins everyone’s wellbeing and the inclusive, progressive culture we have.

“We wanted to design a building with the future in mind – one that gives our employees an intuitive, modern and fully accessible space in which they can thrive as well as playing our part to reduce our impact on the environment by ensuring our new building is built and run in a sustainable way.”

The project involved making significant changes to the layout of the building.

The goal was to create a more inspiring work and meeting environment for the 550 people who work in this location.

Add IET members who use headquarters for meetings and attending conferences and events, and you have an idea of just how busy this building can get.

You can also understand the need for clear signage throughout.

The newly refurbished IET building was bare of signage and so, we were working with a very large blank canvas.

All old directional and room signs were gone as they no longer applied.

Our brief was to install new Wayfinding signage in offices, meeting rooms and catering areas.

We also produced and installed many colourful graphics in various shapes and sizes.

Each one, including the mission-style restroom statement and sign above, adds brightness to the environment.

We were delighted to be selected for this prestigious project by the IET.
